Letter handed in today - Give us a GP surgery!
Great to have the support of Redbridge Independents today. I would be delighted to organise more photoshoots with other political parties. The more of us campaigning on this issue the better.
The campaign continues to stop the Tesco Toxic Towers, but if we can't stop it, it is important that a GP practice is at the site to mitigate some of the damage done.
John Lewis recently pulled out of a big development in Reading, in part due to NHS concerns. Let's hope Tesco follows their example. Even if we get a GP practice, the issue of corridor care remains an issue at our local hospitals and will be an issue for our proposed Judicial review.

Dear Goodmayes Tesco Store Manager
We delivered a letter by hand on the 14th December 2025. For your ease of convenience, a copy is attached. As yet, no reply has been sent to us.
Since the 14th December, circumstances have changed. At 12th March 2026, the Redbridge Council decision date by the planning department for the Goodmayes Development was changed from the 9th January 2026 to the 30th June 2026.
No explanation for the delay has been given. We speculate that the reason for the delay is that Tesco/Weston Homes are in negotiation with Redbridge Council about a new GP surgery at the site. The evidence for negotiations are freedom of information documents available at:
An extract from an email by Julian Pye of Hyas Associates dated 2nd December 2025 17:36 is below:
Subject: RE: Plans for the Goodmayes Tesco site opening a new health facility
“However, we could be agreeable to Weston Homes incorporating a health unit in their scheme but certain provisions are required to enable us to take and utilise the space.”(our emphasis) ENDs
When read in the context of all the documents at the link above, it suggests there are/have been negotiations about a health facility at the site.
BHRUT, the trust running King George and Queens Hospitals wrote to Redbridge Council about this issue, however, all they got in reply was an email dated 5th March to say BHRUT's comments would be sent to the chair of the planning committee.
We say this is unacceptable, residents want to know before the May Council elections whether there will be a health facility at your site.
We request that you write to us to let us know if a GP facility is planned for the site. Our campaign group still opposes the proposed development, however, a new GP facility would mitigate some of the damage done to the local community and the residents living in the Towers should they go ahead.
Regards
