Dear parents at Barely Lane Primary School

Stop the Tesco Toxic Towers – 7pm Meeting tonight Thursday 5th March 2020

This is a campaign planning meeting for those with time to help build the campaign. A local business has kindly given the campaign the free use a room. I have not posted the address which is in Goodmayes, as space is limited. Too many people turning up will lead to some being turned away which may disrupt the business. Phone me on 07956 263088 or andy.walker@talk21.com to book a space. A Councillor will be attending.
The draft agenda is;
1) Introductions
    2) What people want on the agenda - my items follow:
3) I am proposing crowd funding to obtain professional advice for the Tesco application when it comes to committee which could be as early as the 19th March. The wording on the crowd funding site as follows: The campaign against the Tesco Toxic Towers wishes to instruct Richard Buxton Environmental and Planning Solicitors, who acted in Gladman (C1/2017/3476) , the first case to stop a development on air quality grounds in England to win at the Court of Appeal, and to ask Buxtons to instruct an air quality expert, Dr Claire Holman to produce a report as to the risk to air quality arising from the development. Buxtons will provide legal advice on issues arising from the proposals to redevelop the Goodmayes site in efforts to defeat the application when it comes before the planning committee later this month. The fees for this initial work are in the region of £3000. Our campaign will be seriously disadvantaged if we do not have professional advice and we need to act quickly to secure time for Dr Holman. ENDS If you google Dr Holman and the Gladman court case you may agree with me that both Dr Holman and Buxtons will be fine advocates for our cause.
    4) Redbridge Council are refusing to disclose the details of extra pollution monitoring they asked Tesco to carry out. This is not good enough as hourly as well as daily monitoring appear likely to aid the case. The Council will not disclose either the location of monitors or the start and finish date of the this survey. I will make suggestions as to how we can get the information we require and welcome suggestions.
5) Other ideas to drive the campaign forward – big public meeting etc (this needs to sorted quickly)
    6) Date of next planning meeting.
A big thank to Nickel Press at 703 High Road IG3 8SG is supplying a limited number of free campaign window posters to collect from their shop.
The views in this newsletter are my own and should not be taken to have the support of any others involved in the campaign including Nickel Press.
Regards
    Andy Walker
