Publish these school pollution surveys & the construction route for heavy lorries

I wrote earlier to Mr Allan, the Chairman of Tescos. Redbridge Council are not publish NO2 surveys around the Tescos site, so I have asked Mr Allan to intervene to publish the surveys include another two schools and provide the construction route for heavy lorries. This reminds me of BHRUT refusing to disclose a  failed £49M bid for building works. It was only after a campaign that the bid was published which showed a secret plan to close KGH A&E as a type 1 unit.

They may be a reasonable explanation for not publishing these school surveys, however, with every day they are not published makes it more difficult to think there is one. Email follows:

Dear John Allan
Goodmayes Tescos Planning Application – School Pollution Surveys & Route requested
Firstly, I thank you for allowing me to speak at the Tesco AGM last year, although my question was too late to be heard within your standing orders.
It is also been very welcome that Tesco has allowed space at your store for “Stop the Tesco Toxic Towers” campaign. I write to today to seek your assistance with publishing pollution monitoring surveys that have taken place at local schools
The schools in question are
  • Barley Lane Primary School
  • Barely Lane Montessori Day Nursery
  • Goodmayes Primary School
  • Mayfield School

I have asked Redbridge Council for these surveys, but as yet no reply has been given. I would be very grateful if you could send me the surveys at your earliest convenience.
Eastcourt & Chadwell schools have been left out, so I would be grateful if you instruct your team to carry out surveys on these sites too.
Secondly, can you forward the route your lorries will take place during the construction should your application be successful?
This route may be in the application, but I did not notice it. My first thoughts are that your lorries should not pass Chadwell School as it seems to suffer from the most pollution in the area. I imagine lorries will be delivering outside school hours to reducing pollution, but even so it seems best to minimise pollution levels by schools.
Finally, very much in hope than in expectation, I have been in touch with lawyers re legal advice and an air quality report. There is a lot poverty around the site and it may be difficult to crowfund the £2400 plus VAT to cover our campaign getting professional advice.
So I would be grateful if you could send me an application form for one of your community grants in case our campaign qualifies for limited one off financial assistance.
Regards

Andy Walker – An extract from a recent Redbridge Council email is below
"We asked the developer to conduct a six month diffusion survey to establish what the NO2 baseline levels were in the proposed area of development to establish what future occupants would be exposed to. The Defra background maps indicated that the NO2 levels in the development area were below the AQ objectives. Similarly the diffusion tube survey results indicated the same. We did not require the developer to monitor for NO2 concentrations outside Chadwell Heath primary school as it is not in close enough proximity to the development area, however monitoring was undertaken around the following schools which are within 350 meters of the development site:

  • Barley Lane Primary School
  • Barely Lane Montessori Day Nursery
  • Goodmayes Primary School
  • Mayfield School

I apologies for any confusion in my original response as I included specific reference to Chadwell Heath Primary school and it should have read Schools in close proximity.  END of extract
