Residents speak out against the Tesco Toxic Towers
Bob Archer, Secretary of Redbridge Trades Council says
"We should not let the developers and Redbridge Council ride roughshod over residents. Many residents are worried about the changes that such a big development will cause to the area, including the air quality at and around the big intersection at Goodmayes".
Peter Baker says:
“When you stand at the junction of Barley Lane and Seven Kings High road you can taste the pollution. A population increase of the size of the proposed Tesco development will not only make matters worse for existing neighbours , but also for new residents in their tower block roof gardens who will also have to breathe it. Why would you put so many people at risk.”
Keith Prince Greater London Assembly Member says
“As the Assembly Member for Havering and Redbridge I am very concerned about the relaxed approach Redbridge and Tesco’s are taking towards this development in regards to Air Quality That is why I have written to the CEO of Tesco’s asking them to release any Air Quality data they have “
Sam Tarry MP says
“The plans to build more than 1,200 luxury homes on the site of the Goodmayes Tesco is totally out of step with the need in this area.
“Not a single social home is included in this development which, with more than 4,000 on the housing waiting list across Redbridge, is completely unacceptable.
“Furthermore, once this development is completed there will be hundreds of vehicles on site as well as mechanical ventilation units, which will churn out CO2 into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change."
Paul Scott says
“This development needs to be stopped as consequences of the congestion and pollution will be dreadful it goes ahead.”
RoseMary Warrington Green Party candidate for Ilford South says
“I am concerned that the proposed flats may have sealed windows and forced air ventilation. Forced air usually means electric fans and a power failure on a summer!s day would make a south facing flat rapidly unbearable. We need assurances about power backups, fire safety, that heating will be efficient and not over expensive, air is not recirculated between flats and that levels of humidity can be controlled so that there is neither mould or very dry air that can make breathing issues worse”
Andy Walker, says
In 2019, Gladman Developments Ltd. lost their application to build an estate in Kent at the Court of Appeal on air quality grounds. Professor Peckham gave evidence for the application about how the proposed development on farmland would damage residents health in in the surrounding area which was favoured by the court
Redbridge Council were to monitor air quality at Barley Lane, Chadwell primary and other schools so as to measure the cumulative impact that the development would cause on child health. However, the Council has now decided against these school air reports, so making it important we have our own air quality report. Cllr Howard, the cabinet member for the environment said in 2019, "When..people objected because of bad air pollution. This was not from a genuine concern about stopping air pollution. It was about stopping development" If you disagree with Cllr Howard and agree that school monitoring take place please sign the petition
Getting the pollution evidence from schools will help our campaign so signing and sharing the petition could make a real difference.
You can lodge a late objection on this on air quality or any other issue by writing to the Cllr Athwal, the Leader of the Council at jas.athwal@redbridge.gov.uk

The Crowdfunder for air quality report by Professor Peckham is below, the minimum donation is £1. Professor Peckham helped campaigners win at the Court of Appeal last year so if we can commission his work it will be a big step forward.
It would be appreciated if you could display the poster over on your window. Any questions phone Andy on 07956 263088 or andy.walker@talk21
