BHRUT Asthma stats link living by busy roads & ill health

Many thanks to the person help with the the BHRUT  data.

BHRUT supplied asthma statistics yesterday. The link with the information is at https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/asthma_statistics

The tables to search for are 6838 and 6842.

There is a huge amount of evidence available that living by roads is bad for health. Redbridge Council having taken this on board by providing air purifiers at some schools per the story at the link https://www.ilfordrecorder.co.uk/news/politics/redbridge-schools-air-pollution-grant-1-5963960

Some roads have been closed near Redbridge Schools per https://www.ilfordrecorder.co.uk/news/education/redbridge-roads-will-be-shut-outside-schools-1-6109525#:~:text=Seven%20roads%20in%20Redbridge%20will,if%20they%20do%20not%20comply.&text=It%20will%20then%20start%20outside,Woodford%20in%202020%20to%202021.

The BHRUT stats list 5,971 asthma attendances at King George and Queens for all ages in 2018 and 2019.

The second table table shows 901 asthma admissions for at both hospitals for those aged under 18. The IG3 population of 35,543 (from this link https://www.doogal.co.uk/UKPostcodes.php?Search=IG3 ) using 2011 census figures has 53 admissions out of the 901 total.

The RM3 population of 40,272 (https://www.doogal.co.uk/UKPostcodes.php?Search=RM3 ) had 44 admissions of the 901 total, substantially less when bearing in mind the higher population. RM3 is further away from busy roads than IG3.

The construction of the Tesco Toxic Towers and the extra traffic if built will be put more pollution pressures on local residents. Let's hope Tescos see sense and stop this development.

The BHRUT stats show a correlation rather than causal, however study after study have suggested a casual link and the BHRUT statistics must be a cause for concern.
