Cllr Athwal replies on no-idling zones

The below is Cllr Athwal's reply, the detail in the response is welcome.

However, it raises a number of issues, such as where were the 11 fines and when will the new signs at schools go up? Is the Council OK with schools crowdfunding for the own signs? I will consult with Reclaim Redbridge and write further in due course.

Jas's reply is below.

Dear Andy

Further to your questions and interest in anti-idling measures.  As previously advised as part of the Council’s Anti-Idling initiative and the School Streets Programme we will be introducing such signs throughout the borough outside schools and known problem areas.  In relation to issuing fines Redbridge started issuing PCNs for anti-idling in July 2020 – between July and the beginning of November 11 fines have already been issued.  Redbridge is a ‘Band B’ authority therefore the maximum PCN that we are permitted to issue is £60.  (Hackney is a Band A authority and is therefore permitted to issues the higher fine of £80.)
