High pollution readings on Chadwell Heath high road grounds for rejecting application
I took pollution readings with a hand hold flow monitor earlier today between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m on Chadwell Health High Road walking from 891 Chadwell Heath High Road where an application for flats is to be held tomorrow to Chadwell primary.
Unlike Redbridge the Redbridge pollution monitors I took measurements at child height. There is academic evidence that supports the common sense assumption that if you monitor pollution closer to the pollution source, that is the car exhaust, you get higher readings.
The council puts pollution monitors above headlight preventing being vandalised. This is understandable but but these readings need to be adjusted to compensate for the underestimate.
I will bring this to the attention of the planning committee tomorrow asking them to to defer the applications on the High Road until they have correct readings. The high reading is by Chadwell school where the cars back up during school opening and closing times. This suggests that every school day children will be breathing in polluted air. This continual breathing of toxic fumes has to be a cause of the high asthma rates at Chadwell Primary with the Chair of Governors saying more than 6% of the pupils suffer from asthma see HERE
