Report from last night's planning committee: A three wise monkey Council
I attended the Council meeting last night and was struck by how incurious the majority of the Councillors were.
The Councillors were told the air was fine at the site by the officers and the Ricardo air quality consultant.
The reality is the location is so toxic that the flats in the most contaminated zones have special measures taken to mitigate the damage to human health. The photo is from the Council papers before officers last night, although I am not sure how many of them read it.
The extract shows the air is toxic, but no Councillor challenged the officers on the point.
David Cameron was right in 2016 when he said
"Writing in the Sunday Times, the Prime Minister said “brutal high-rise towers” had contributed to the rise of poverty, gangs and anti-social behaviour and would be torn down." taken from "Brutal"
Jas Athwal was right to say high rise was set to be the "new slums"
Cllr Athwal said: “We brought all the high rise buildings down from the 60s. We say each high rise is the last one but we will get another one and another one and they will go through and we are struggling.”
“Where are the youth clubs and hospitals? What we are doing is building the slums of the future.” more at "Slums of the future"
I have written to lawyers to see if a legal challenge can be made to this decision which damage our community and will report back in due course.
