Letter to go to Recorder at 5pm on Monday 5pm 28th February

Letter to the Recorder, please send me your name and address to andy.walker@talk21.com should you wish to sign by 5pm Monday 28th February

Dear Sir or Madam

Sadiq Khan, the London Mayor, is due to make his decision on Monday 7th March about whether to pass what campaigners call the Tesco Toxic Towers, in Goodmayes, a proposed development of high rise towers beside a busy polluting high road.

The site is toxic due to traffic air pollution, Tescos say the site has been made safe by inserting air filters in the flats most exposed to air pollution. We say Tescos are wrong to press ahead without researching how many child deaths and hospital admissions are linked to air pollution at local postcodes close to the site. BHRUT, the local NHS Trust, have released statistics showing child deaths and hospital admissions from diseases linked to air pollution.

One of the child cancer deaths is in the partial postcode, RM6 4, which is nearby to the Tesco site. BHRUT will not provide the full postcode to allow us to judge how strong the link is between child deaths and living close to roads.

These BHRUT statistics show hundreds of child hospital admissions with diseases linked to air pollution. It must be right for the Mayor to call in the Tesco application and research the real risks of building by polluting roads.

The child death and illness statistics and BHRUT covering letter are at stopthetescotoxictowers.blogspot.com

Yours
