Dear Residents
Public Meeting Monday 20th
June 8pm: Methodist Church Hall Percy Road IG3 8UA
Support the Legal Challenge to
the Tesco Toxic Towers!
The fundraising website starts today at 4pm to challenge the
Tesco Toxic Towers at court. The campaign team have instructed Hodge Jones
& Allen to represent our campaign. We have chosen Hodge Jones Allen because
of their work in the Ella Kissi-Debrah case. Ella was the first child in
England to have air pollution listed as contributory factor on her death
certificate.
Today is National Clean Air day more at www.actionforcleanair.org.uk/schools
Air pollution will be the focus of the challenge.
Not only do we want to win at court, we also want to win at the
court of public opinion. The aim is to go to 10 Downing Street on the issue to deliver
a letter in order to help build a consensus that it is wrong to build in an environment
suffering from both air and noise pollution. Any contribution you can make to
the campaign will be much appreciated from 4pm today at:
crowdjustice.com/case/stop-the-tesco-toxic-towers
All monies raised go directly to the lawyers not me.
The meeting will also be on zoom
Meeting ID: 854 3305 0918 Passcode: 760276
However, the reception is not great, so zoom coverage might be a
bit hit and miss. When we have 5G in IG3 it should be better.
Regards
Andy Walker
PS The petition over is another example of how we can win at the
court of public opinion. Should the Council carry out a study into child deaths
linked to air pollution, it is almost certain to find a correlation between
child death, high pollution periods and living close to roads. The petition is
also on line at change.org/KidsLivesMatter
1,500 signatures means a debate at the Town Hall which gives Councillors an opportunity
to order the study. I would be grateful if you could return the sheet to me.
Kids live matter!
"We the
undersigned who live or work in Redbridge note that:
Barking, Havering
& Redbridge University Hospitals Trust have reported 55 child deaths at
King George and Queens hospitals linked to air pollution for a three year
period ending March 2022. The trust will not release the full postcodes of the
dead children so we cannot tell if living close to a road is a factor in these
deaths. And asks:
1 Redbridge Council
to investigate these deaths to discover if living close to a busy road is a
factor in these deaths.
2 Write to Sadiq
Khan, the London Mayor requesting a London wide study of child deaths linked to
air pollution takes place.
The petitioners
would welcome the proposed two studies above to allow policy makers and the
public to be informed about the risks of building housing close to roads.
