Dear
Residents
Residents’ Public Meeting 8pm Monday 19th June 2023
Methodist Church Hall Percy Road IG3 8UA
Research show local civic engagement provides better governance.
I quote
“Civic participation affects not just individuals, but entire
societies. Neighbourhoods with higher levels of civic participation have a
greater sense of community, lower levels of crime, and citizens who are
healthier and happier.” (1)
Active resident associations, a key means to boost civic
participation, are usually associated with wealthy areas. However, with so much
high rise development planned it seems reasonable to try and set up a local
resident association designed to lobby the Council to promote civic engagement.
On 6th June, I was banned from asking this question
at a council health meeting due to take place on 7th June.
“Will anyone on this committee agree with me that your terms of
reference should include the population of Redbridge each month along with key
waiting time statistics for hip, knee and other key health information
alongside the same statistics for all other London boroughs.”
Reforming our council to allow greater public participation to
allow reasonable questions would be good for our area and I hope you will be
able to make the meeting.
Homebase update
I had a meeting with Fairview management and residents on 6th
June. Fairview management said the Council has not sent any inspectors to
monitor dust at the site and they defended the use of single staircase for
their high-rise buildings. The safety of single staircases is in dispute and I
have written more on this on twitter.
A
new wing for King George Hospital public meeting 8pm Ilford Town Hall 17th
July 2023
We
need a new wing with in-patient beds in order to cope with the expanding East
London population. The 4 hour A&E wait times at King George and Queeens are
already among the worst in England.
