Model letter to academic re environmental regulations request
Dear Academic
I am part of a team that has been campaigning against what
campaigners call the Tesco Toxic Towers in Goodmayes for around 3 years. I believe
that Ella Kissi-Debrah is not the only child to die of disease linked to air
pollution.
To this end I have been trying to get access to my local NHS
trust child death and hospital admission stats.
However, after going to the Upper Tribunal, it seems I had
used the wrong regulations, I should have used environmental regulations based
by upon the Aarhus Convention.
I am building support for a new environmental request and it
seems helpful to have an academic on board to analyse the data if the request
is eventually successful, which might take years to reach a conclusion.
The data I seek to be given to an academic (not to me as it
is confidential) will be:
Dates of death or hospital admission
Full postcodes of child address
Disease
Should the request be successful, I would then ask an
academic to correlate the data to high pollution days to discover if there is a
significant correlation.
The London Mayor uses modelled data, which I argue is inadequate.
Judgments and more information is at the website below.
Should the request be successful, I hope it will influence siting
high rise towers by busy polluting roads and/or influence Councillors to ask for
best quality air filters at such towers to mitigate against the health hazards.
